What is MySQL?
MySQL is the world's most popular open-source database program. It's an integral part of the LAMP (Linux operating system, Apache Web server, MySQL database, PHP/Perl programming language) platform that runs most Web sites.
MySQL is more like Oracle or SQL Server (server-based database programs) than Access or Base (mainly for desktop users). With MySQL running on a server, you can easily use it for business systems or database-driven websites.
It's easy to use and configure, but also capable of industrial-strength applications. Depending on the computer it's installed on, MySQL can hold several terabytes of information per table.
