Lenovo Laptop Won’t Turn On? Best fixes for ThinkPad and Yoga Laptops

Last Updated On:

Do you think your Lenovo laptop won’t turn on either when not plugged into the power source or do you think the power button is damaged?

There are a couple different things that would be responsible for a laptop not turning on, from something like having a damaged power button, to a damaged battery and in some cases, even a damaged or incompatible charger. So we will be exploring a couple different things to do should you ever be in a position where either your Lenovo ThinkPad or Yoga laptop won’t turn on.

Lenovo Laptop Won’t Turn On? Working fixes for ThinkPad and Yoga Laptops

In our case, our Lenovo ThinkPad laptop won’t turn on but we noticed that the power button is lighting up. We tried charging, but the laptop showed no signs of charging. Even pressing the power button doesn’t boot the laptop, but the white indicator light was blinking, which was supposed to happen before the laptop turned ON normally.

To fix this, we pressed the power button down for a couple of seconds (20 seconds), took out the battery from the laptop, waited for around 5 minutes, and then reinserted the battery.

Start the laptop without the battery

Something we also recommend you try is removing the battery from the laptop and inserting the charger to see if the indicator light turns ON. If the indicator light showing that the laptop is charging comes ON, try starting the laptop without the battery to see if it works. If it does, you can insert your battery back, check the battery percentage and see if it’s charging without errors from the charger >> if the battery is at a reasonable percent, disconnect the charger and see if all works fine >> if the laptop trips after you disconnect the charger, chances are that the battery is the faulty one.

Swap the AC adapter

Generally, if you’re certain the battery is working fine, and the AC adapter doesn’t power the laptop as we recommend in the previous fix, getting a different AC adapter should help here. Some people recommend getting an adapter with the same voltage, but we recommend getting an AC adapter that is compatible with your laptop. Some laptops can be selective of AC adapters, so getting and trying another one that is meant for your model of Lenovo ThinkPad or Yoga laptop should fix things.

Reseat the RAMs

Sometimes, when RAMs are not properly seated, you can have issues with booting your laptop. So we recommend taking them out for around 10 seconds >> clean them gently >> insert them back into the laptop, ensuring that they are seated properly.

Check for black screen

Now there is a chance that your Lenovo laptop turns ON, but you’re dealing with a black screen, leading to you thinking the laptop isn’t turned ON. You want to connect your laptop to an external monitor or a TV and see if there is anything displayed on the screen. If there is, you would have to fix the black screen issue and things should be fine.

Do a hard reboot

The first thing to do if your Lenovo laptop turns ON but the screen is black is a hard reboot. To do this remove the battery and unplug the charger >> press and hold the power button for 20 seconds >> try restarting the laptop.

Close the lid

Likely, your Lenovo laptop turns ON but the screen is black because it’s just having sight glitches with the boot process, so Press the power button >> immediately close and reopen the laptop lid and it should now work.

Lenovo Laptop Won’t Turn On Internal Battery

If your Lenovo laptop won’t turn on and your laptop uses an internal battery, here is a fix that should work for you. Check the bottom cover of your laptop for an emergency pinhole reset button >> get a straightened paper click >> then gently press the paper pin into the reset pinhole of the PC.

Some Lenovo IdeaPad laptops have a Novo button that also works the same way as the emergency reset button, so you would want to play around with these.
