Many of us have had to deal with the frustration of the Verizon Message+ crashing repeatedly, and having your Message+ crashing either when you’re trying to have a file or contact attached to your message or when you’re just reading or trying to read a text.

Let’s explore a couple of fixes that have been found to work well for the Message+ Keeps Stopping issue and some other Verizon Message plus issues.

Verizon Message+ Not Working

Fix 1 – Clear Cache and Data

  1. Go to the Settings menu
  2. Scroll down the menu and select Apps
  3. Under the Apps selection, search for the Message App and tap on it

This should clear the cache and data and should fix the Verizon Message+ Not Working issue and any other messaging issues. If this doesn’t work, then you should see the next fix.

Fix 2 – Simulated Battery Removal

If we experienced this Verizon Message+ Not Working issue on older versions of smartphones, a quick solution would have been to remove and reinsert the battery. This helps to solve so many issues we had with our devices, and it could still help to solve these issues today if our smartphones came with removable batteries.

Simulated battery removal is a feature that’s pretty similar to physically removing and reinserting your smartphone battery – but for smartphones with non-removable batteries.

To trigger simulated battery removal,

  1. Hold the Power Button for 10+ seconds or until your smartphone screen goes dark. (You could also hold both the Power button and Volume button, works the same way).
  2. After rebooting your phone, power it back on.

This has fixed the “Message+ Keeps Stopping” issue for many of our readers. So you should give it a trial.

Fix 3 – Verizon Message+ Crashing

The third fix we’d explore if the message+ app is not working is pretty detailed, more detailed than our first two fixes. It incorporates some of the steps we had on our first fix and builds on that by showing other things that could be done to get your message plus working again.

  1. Force stop these apps: Message+, Stock Messages, Contact, and Phone.
  2. Clear cache for these apps.
  3. Turn all notifications OFF on the Stock Messages app.
  4. Now go to Message+ and have the Notifications turned OFF. Turn OFF all settings that have anything to do with Wi-Fi and MMS.
  5. Go to Settings, tap on Applications, tap Application Manager, then More, and tap on Modify System Settings.
  6. After completing the above steps, return to Message+ and restore the regular settings
  7. Reboot the phone

Fix 4 – Reinstall the Message+

In case the error message starts coming up after you have done an update or installation of the app, then there is a chance that the issue is more of a compatibility one. Uninstall the app and follow these steps before reinstalling it.

  1. Go to Application Manager
  2. Tap on Google Play Store
  3. Tap Clear Data
  4. Reinstall the Message+

Fix 5 – Software Update

This fix will also build on the basic principle of the last option we tried. There is a chance that Message+ is having issues with the firmware and there are clashes. This fix aims to see if there is an update for your software, so you try to have an update done and see if that fixes the issue, as we found that many software updates come with fixes for some of these types of issues.

  1. Go to the Apps screen and tap Settings
  2. Scroll to and select Software Update
  3. Click Download Update Manually
  4. The system will search for and see if there is a new update.
  5. If there is, you just have to download and install it (always ensure that your phone battery is above 50 percent before doing any update).
  6. Check to know if the message+ issue was fixed.

Fix 6 – Wipe Cache Partition

Some software updates may cause hidden issues on your smartphone. One of these types of updates is when you try to update your software when it’s below 50 percent. These types of mistakes could cause software issues that will make apps start malfunctioning, and the Verizon Messaging app could also develop the “message plus keeps stopping” issue in the process. Follow these steps to wipe your cache partition.

  1. Turn your smartphone OFF.
  2. Hold both VolumeUp and Bixby (if you’re using Samsung), then press and hold the Power key until the Android Logo comes up.
  3. Press the VolumeDown button repeatedly until you see the Android logo
  4. Use the Volume button to scroll, then find Wipe Cache Partition
  5. Press the Power button to select the Wipe Cache Partition
  6. After you finishing wiping, you’ll see “Rebook System Now” just press the Power button to select this and system.

Fix 7 – Factory Reset

This is the last fix because it’s the last thing many of us would want to do. After a factory reset, you’d probably lose many of the files and data on your device, but the good news is that it will most likely solve the Message+ Keeps Stopping issue permanently.

You might transfer all files you need to the MicroSD card and have it removed from the phone. Eject your SIM also.

  1. Under Settings, find Backup & Restore
  2. Select Backup & Restore and confirm that Back Up My Data is enabled (must be enabled).
  3. Scroll down and select Factory Data Reset
  4. Tap Reset Phone to confirm your selection and select Erase Everything
  5. The Factory reset would take more than 10 minutes, your device will automatically reboot after it completes.
  6. You now have to wait for your device to reinitialize the preloaded apps and see if the Verizon Messaging+ app is now back to normal.

Which of these fixes did the job for you? We’d like you to tell us in the comments, so other readers can easily find the most popular fixes and won’t need always to try all or most of these fixes before they find the solution to the message+ Not Working issue.
