Published on:

Voicemails are an integral part of our everyday phone use. You try to reach someone and they’re not available to pick your call either because their phone was turned OFF or they aren’t close to their phone at the time you called. With a voicemail, you will be able to drop a message with the recipient and have them call you back as soon as they can.

The world of voicemails is constantly evolving as we have seen in the technology scene as a whole, and now we have visual voicemails from AT&T and Verizon with many other carriers joining the bandwagon as fast as possible. So what is the AT&T and Verizon visual voicemail? What does it do? And why is the Verizon and AT&T visual voicemail not working on your android devices and iPhones? These and many more will be discussed in this article.

What Is Verizon Visual Voicemail?

So what is the Verizon visual voicemail? The Verizon visual voicemail is a service on android and iPhones from Verizon that makes it possible to view your voicemail messages, listen to them in any order you want, scroll through and select the ones you’d like to listen to, delete them, and reply any ones either via call or text. The idea behind the Verizon visual voicemail is that you’re able to see your voicemails and you’re able to interact better with them.

To access the Verizon visual voicemail on android, you will need to pay a monthly subscription fee, but the company offers a 30-day free trial for new users.

For iPhone users, the Visual Voicemail feature comes out-of-the-box with the device, to activate the Verizon visual voicemail on iPhone, open the Phone app >> tap on the Voicemail tab >> tap on Set Up Now >> you will now create a password after which you should tap on Done >> you will be required to enter your password a second time, after which you will tap on Done again >> on this page, you will be required to set your Greeting (if you’d like to record a greeting, select Custom, but if you’d like to leave the greeting as is, you just select Default) >> all that remains is to tap on Save and your visual voicemail should be working now.

What Is AT&T Visual Voicemail?

The AT&T Visual Voicemail is a feature that makes it possible to manage your voicemail directly from your smartphone. This means you wouldn’t need to dial into your mailbox to listen to your voicemail. The AT&T Visual Voicemail also has an accompanying android app that allows you to play messages in any order of your choice, read the text transcripts of the messages, save messages on the app and share voicemail messages via emails, cloud, and text seamlessly. The AT&T Visual Voicemail also gives you access to more information about the caller, the duration of the voicemail, and options to listen, delete, and archive messages.

To access the AT&T Visual Voicemail either on android or iPhone, you will need to have either an iPhone or an android phone that works with the Verizon network, you will also need to have either an AT&T Mobile Share or Unlimited Data plans – plans that come with support for the AT&T Visual Voicemail.

If you use an android phone, you can just download the AT&T Visual Voicemail android app here and you should be up and running in minutes.

For iPhone users, the AT&T Visual Voicemail feature comes out-of-the-box with the device, to activate the Verizon visual voicemail on iPhone, open the Phone app >> tap on the Voicemail tab >> tap on Set Up Now >> you will now create a password, after which you should tap on Done >> you will be required to enter your password a second time, after which you will tap on Done again >> on this page, you will be required to set your Greeting (if you’d like to record a greeting, select Custom, but if you’d like to leave the greeting as is, you just select Default) >> all that remains is to tap Save and your visual voicemail should be working now.

iPhone Visual Voicemail Not Working

If your Verizon or AT&T iPhone visual voicemail is not working there are a few things to do to try having it fixed and getting the feature to work again.

Toggle ON and OFF

Since the feature is built-in, toggling it ON and OFF can help to fix things if the iPhone visual voicemail stops working. To do this, open the Phone app >> on the top right corner, tap on the three vertical dots >> in the dropdown, select Settings >> select the Voicemail tab >> have the voicemail toggled ON if it’s not already turned ON, or toggle it OFF and ON if it’s already turned ON. The principle here is that this should be toggled ON always for visual voicemail to work.

Allow Background Data Usage

If your iPhone visual voicemail isn’t working, you want to confirm that you allow it to use data in the background. To do this go to Settings >> select More Settings >> select App Manager >> scroll through the list and select the Visual Voicemail app >> tap on Mobile Data >> ensure that the option to Allow Background Data Usage is turned ON.

AT&T And Verizon Visual Voicemail Not Working On Android

Both Verizon and AT&T allow android users to download apps to use the visual voicemail, so if yours isn’t working, here are a few things to check:

Enable Background Data Usage

For AT&T, I noticed a lot of the users have been complaining about the app not updating itself with the latest voicemails unless you pull it down. I suspect its issues with the background data, so you should confirm that mobile background data is enabled for the app as this is one of the most common issues we have seen.

Clear Cache, Data, and Update

You want to check that you have the latest Verizon or AT&T visual voicemail app, if not, you would want to update it. You now want to go to Settings >> select Apps >> look through the Expanded list and select the Visual Voicemail app >> select the Storage tab >> tap on Clear Cache >> go back to the storage page and select Manage Space >> then tap on Clear All Data.
