Why Am I Not Getting Snapchat Notifications?

By John Adebimitan

Just like every other social media app, Snapchat was designed to notify a user when there’s a new message or activity on their profile. Snapchat also sends you notifications when a friend uploads a picture or a video. These notifications could be a beep, a ring, or a vibration. However, some users have complained of not getting Snapchat notifications, hence the “why am I not getting Snapchat notifications?” question.

It doesn’t matter if you experience this once in a while or rather frequently, one thing is sure – you’ll miss out on important reminders. This article discusses why this happens and what you should do if you start having issues getting Snapchat Notifications.

Why Am I Not Getting Snapchat Notifications on Android and iPhone?

Your not getting Snapchat notifications can be because the Snapchat notification has been turned OFF somewhere between your phone settings and the Snapchat in-app notification settings.

Smartphones come with a feature that allows each user to either turn ON or disable notifications for each app, and for Snapchat, there is a feature that lets you modify the notifications you’ll be getting.

Memory Cache

It is recommended that the Snapchat app cache be cleared at regular intervals (maybe monthly). If left to remain on the phone for a long time, the files can occupy useful space in your phone’s internal memory. This may also cause bugs or software issues that alter normal app operation, including notification settings.

Just as you are advised to clear the memory cache, it is also vital to clear the App Data from time to time. Each time this is done, it frees up space and refreshes Snapchat.

Snapchat background data disabled

For notifications to keep running smoothly and promptly for apps like Snapchat, internet services must be turned ON. However, some users disable background data for several apps to limit their data consumption.

If Snapchat’s background app usage isn’t permitted, you won’t be notified of new messages until you manually launch the app. And for many of you, that is why you’re not getting Snapchat notifications.

App developers regularly update apps for reasons that include fixing a bug or making a feature on the app even better. That’s why we have to update apps from time to time. If you don’t have the latest version of the app, while Snapchat may keep working, certain features will start misbehaving. For some users, they will not be getting Snapchat notifications.

Snapchat Notifications Not Working? Best Fixes for Android And iPhone

Restart your device. The first troubleshooting tip we recommend is to restart your phone. It could be a simple restart or a cold restart. For a simple restart, turn OFF your phone (Android or IOS) and wait for at least 30 seconds before turning it back ON. When you switch your phone back ON, some processes will have been restored to default.

For a cold restart, while the phone is still ON, press and hold the power button down for 20 seconds. This command restarts your phone immediately. In many cases, Snapchat notifications should be back on after such restart.

How to view other snapchatters on story?

Whenever users you haven’t added to your list of friends view your story, they appear as ‘other snapchatter.’ These other snapchatters either have you as a friend on their accounts, or you’ve not responded to a friend request they sent. Here’s how to see the accounts of these other snapchatters and decide if you want to add them as friends:

  • Launch your Snapchat and tap the Profile icon on the top left corner of the app.
  • Scroll down to My Stories and open your story in the window that shows.
  • Tap the eye icon with numbers to see friends who have viewed your stories. You’ll see the other snapchatters beneath your friends.
  • Tap their names to view their profiles. You can also tap the Add Friend button to add them to your friends’ list if you want to.

How to tell if someone unadded you on Snapchat?

There are different ways to tell if your friend has unfriended you on Snapchat.

  1. Open your Snapchat and tap the Chat option at the bottom of your screen. A list of people you’ve been interacting with and the status of your last interaction will show up.
If it shows Pending, with the arrow next to their name showing grey, you know the person has unfriended you from their friends’ list. When you open the chat, you’ll see a notification saying, “Your snaps and chats will be pending until (insert friend name) adds you as a friend.”
  2. You can also tell that someone has unfriended you by checking their snapscore. When you search for the person who has unfriended you and open their profile and you can’t see their snapscore, you know they’ve unfriended you.
  3. When you add someone, and they don’t add you back, they will show up as Subscriptions in your Stories section and not as Friends. Of course, this will only work if the other person has posted a story.

How to see who screenshotted your Snapchat story?

Snapchat is huge on privacy, so it alerts you when people have taken screenshots or screen records of your stories or chats. Here’s how to see when some other snapchatter takes a screenshot of your story:

  • Open your Snapchat app and tap the Profile icon at the top left of your screen.
  • Scroll down to My Stories and open your stories. If someone has taken a screenshot, a green icon with two opposite-facing arrows on top of each other will appear next to the eyeball icon that shows you know many people have viewed your story. You can tap it to see the person that took a screenshot.

How to tag someone on Snapchat?

You can tag a friend to a snap you’ve made using Snapchat’s mention feature.

  • To tag someone, create a Snap first, then tap the Text menu to access the tagging option.
  • You can scroll through a list of your recent Snap interactions or manually enter the person’s Snapchat username to tag them.

Snapchat tags are customizable but always appear underlined to show the difference between ordinary texts and captions.
