FaceTime Audio Not Working[FIXED]

By John Adebimitan

It can be a frustrating thing when you try to call your loved ones, and you find your FaceTime audio not working.

FaceTime audio comes with quality sound that is a step higher than normal cellphone conversations, and it is a handy tool when you wish to call someone at a far distance because it uses a cellular or Wi-Fi connection instead of call minutes; this is why it is often bothersome when your FaceTime audio is not working when you try to make a call.

Before you rush off to take your phone to the technician, there are some troubleshooting tips in this article that can help with the issue of your FaceTime audio not working.

FaceTime Audio Not Working? Causes

The first thing to do when you notice your FaceTime audio is not working is to find out if the fault is actually coming from your end; if the issue is only noticed when you are talking to one person then the problem might not be from you.

However, if it occurs repeatedly when you’re calling multiple persons, then it is advisable to check what the problem is on your part. The causes of FaceTime audio not working can be one of the following:

  • Poor or shaky cellular connection or slow Wi-Fi network
  • Your microphone is muted.
  • Another iPhone app is making use of your microphone.
  • In-app permissions and FaceTime access to the microphone have not been accepted.
  • Old iOS or updating system.
  • The camera microphone that you’re using may be spoilt. Note: Both front and back cameras have different microphones.
  • The audio system might be set to headphones
  • Hardware or phone is faulty.
  • System bugs or glitches.

FaceTime Audio Not Working? Working Fixes

There are quite a few troubleshooting tips you can carry out when you find the FaceTime audio not working:

Fix 1: Look at your cellular and Wi-Fi connection

If you’re using your mobile data for the call or a Wi-Fi connection, check with other apps to gauge if the Internet connection is fast; if it is not, you may have to postpone your FaceTime call to another time or just move to an area of the house where the network would be faster.

Fix 2: Reset your FaceTime app

Sometimes, the problem might be coming from the FaceTime app, and you might just have to reset the app itself. Here’s how to do it.

Click on Settings >> Click on the FaceTime app >> Move the toggle beside it to OFF and then, after some seconds, back to ON.

Fix 3: Check your microphone and headphones

Check if your microphone is on mute or if it is connected to any listening device such as a headphone or AirPods. If that is the issue, then turn your mic back ON and disconnect the external devices.

Sometimes, the problem might occur when you are making a FaceTime video call, and the audio stops working. This can be a result of the front microphone having issues; a quick solution is to use the back camera to complete your call since they both have different microphones.

Fix 4: Check app permissions

To check your app permissions, first, click on Settings >> then click on Privacy >> tap on the microphone and ensure that it is enabled for FaceTime operations.

If you try out all these tips and nothing works, then you should reset your phone by restarting it, click on the power button to turn it OFF, after some seconds, turn it back ON. Restarting your phone should help fix the FaceTime audio, but if that is not the case, then the device is probably damaged.

How Do I Turn ON Facetime Audio?

To turn on FaceTime audio, you have to do the following

  • First, you check Settings and switch ON FaceTime.
  • Use your Apple ID to sign in.
  • Then, you move on to the FaceTime app on your phone.
  • Click on it and fill in the details of the person you wish to call; these details are the email address and phone number.
  • Press the audio button for a FaceTime audio call

Can You Facetime Audio If Blocked?

No, you cannot have a FaceTime audio call if you’re blocked. On the other end, if you blocked someone and they tried to call you, it would just ring on their side multiple times without them getting an answer; you, on the other hand, would not receive any notification that they’re trying to contact you.

What Is Facetime Audio Vs. Facetime Video?

FaceTime audio involves just using the FaceTime app for audio calls; it is preferred to phone calls because you can talk as much as you want as long as you have a functioning data connection. FaceTime Video, on the other hand, encompasses everything, both the FaceTime audio call and the FaceTime video calls.

Both of these functions can be carried out on the FaceTime app, depending on which one you’re in the mood for; they also both use cellular and Wi-Fi connections to operate.

There is not much difference in the data used for the FaceTime audio and video calls, but one thing they have in common is that the voice and video quality of the calls are very satisfactory as long as you have a stable internet connection when making them.

The listed pointers should help out in resetting your phone back to normal when your FaceTime audio is not working properly.

However, if you try out these troubleshooting tips and there is no improvement on your FaceTime audio, then that points to a hardware problem, and you should definitely take your device to a technician for repairs.
